BlackBerry Efficiency

I’ve been happily using a BlackBerry 10 device for over a year now and I’m still amazed at how much I can get done on this device.

Case in point: a client just asked me for a password lookup. I had two devices close by. The first was a 10 Windows 8 tablet, the second was my BlackBerry Q10. The Windows tablet, despite access to the “real” desktop password app and native cloud storage failed me. The filesystem was a chore to navigate, and then the password app crashed on start.

The BlackBerry, on the other hand, easily copied my password file from the cloud to the device, and then just as easily opened it with a great port of an Android app. This was a seamless and efficient operation that took me less time to accomplish than it would have on a desktop machine.

For the life of me, I can’t figure out why people aren’t flocking to BlackBerry 10. It’s a contemporary smartphone OS that has all of the major features one needs, while respecting the owner’s privacy more than any competing platform.  I sincerely hope that John Chen can turn things around for the company. It’s full of brilliant people who are bringing great things to a market that doesn’t seem to care. It’s very sad. That said, at least in the meantime, I have a great device that does everything I need.
