More fun with the BlackBerry Z10

Posted by

Day three of using the Z10 and I’m still rather enamoured with it. All of the apps I need are there and the core functionality is great.

I know, I know, it’s still early, I shouldn’t jump to conclusions, but so far I’m just loving the Z10. It works like an improved amalgam of webOS and classic BlackBerry OS while being thoroughly modern.

The Android compatibility layer, while ugly, gives the platform a major advantage over other emerging alternatives. Rumours are already flying that it will be upgraded to Jelly Bean shortly. It’s entirely possible that a higher percentage of BlackBerrys will be running the latest version of Android ahead of actual Android handsets.

The UI is great and the entire experience is very fluid. Deeper use of the software leads to repeated “A Ha” moments that I haven’t experienced since using webOS and iOS for the first times. This feels like a solid and we’ll thought out platform.

And then there’s the keyboard. I’ve gone from being a die hard tactile keyboard fan to being completely happy with the Z10 software keyboard practically overnight. It’s that good.

Anyway, very soon I’ll be posting a few tips and apps that I’ve found to enhance my use of the platform. I suspect there will be more posts like this in the future.
